Earring Display

So, I didn't come up with this idea myself, but it's simple enough and a cheap way to make a display for your earrings.

Things you need:
- Window screen (this is your display, so find or buy one that you think will fit your earrings or that fits the area you need it to)
- Fabric (or paint- in my opinion fabric is the easier option)
- staples and stapler (or needle and thread)
Optional: spray paint

So, here's what you do- you decorate the window screen to look fancier.  The screen itself has little holes that work great for sticking your earrings through.

1. Optional spray paint step comes first.  (Look at number two with fabrics to decide how you want it to look.)  If the screen will be showing in the final project, you can consider spray painting the screen to be a different color, of your choice.

2. With the fabric- you fold it around the edges.  There are two ways to do this, I did one and my sister did another (I'll upload pictures as soon as I can).  I covered the whole screen so you didn't know I used a window screen.  In this case it doesn't matter if you neatly fold over the edges to the backside because no one but you will see the back.  My sister though just wrapper fabric around the frame, making it thicker than the plastic frame to make it look like a framed earring display.  For this you have to fold over the edge that is going to be on the front side (the back is up to you if you want to fold that edge as well) and it needs to be straight- so an iron would be a good way to hold the crease for you.  I say paint as an option because I suppose you could just paint a border right onto the plastic frame.  I prefer fabric, because I'm not talented with paint and it seemed to bring off a more feminine look (though I assume, if you have better painting skills than I, you can do better than I did with fabric with painting it)

3. Getting the fabric to stay.  Pull the fabric tight around the screen and staple or sew the front and the back side together through the screen.  The stapler I had wasn't big enough to close down around the window screen we bought.  So for us, it took us a while because we separated the staples, stuck them through, and then with scissors (or anything hard really) bend the staples down.  If you have any sewing skills, you can easily go in and out to sew the two pieces together around the screen.

Pros: It looks fun, feminine, and cute and displays your earrings in a creative, cheap way.
Cons: The staples make it take longer to make.  And the biggest one for me: you have to take it down from wherever you display it every time you put on, or take off an earring with a backing to it.

In the end I had more earrings with backings and I bought a nifty display from Bed Bath and Beyond for under $10, that folds up for easy storage, but if you want to make one for about $5, this one is great.
